List Of Quidditch Positions

Here is a little more context on each of the different positions in the game. We have also included some famous witches and wizards who have played the position.

Seeker

Each team has only one Seeker and the only goal of the position is to catch the Golden Snitch. The Seeker plays a major role because the game can only end after one of them has caught the Golden Snitch. If they are successful in doing so, the game ends and their team scores 150 points. That is usually enough to give their team the victory but it isn’t guaranteed.

Typically, Seekers are the smallest and fastest players on their teams. The position is also one that probably has the most glory attached to it. We are introduced to the position very early as Harry Potter becomes the Seeker for Gryffindor in the first book and movie. The Seeker position does not have any real comparison to any muggle sport.

Some Notable Seekers

  • Harry Potter: He served as the seeker for the Gryffindor team for most of his years at Hogwarts.
  • Charlie Weasley: He was the seeker for the Gryffindor house before Harry Potter.
  • Draco Malfoy: He became the seeker for Slytherin house after his first year.
  • Regulus Black: He was the seeker for Slytherin during his time at Hogwarts.
  • Cho Chang: She was the seeker for Ravenclaw House during most of her time at school.
  • Cedric Diggory: He was the seeker for Hufflepuff House up until his death.
  • Viktor Krum: He was the seeker for the Bulgarian National team, which made it to the finals of the World Cup in 1994.
  • Ginny Weasley: She became the new seeker for Gryffindor after Harry.

In the first movie, James Potter is depicted as a Seeker but in an interview, JK Rowling stated that he was actually a Chaser.

Chaser

Each team has three Chasers on the field at one time and their main goal is to throw the Quaffle past the opposing team’s Keeper. This is a valuable position because each goal is worth 10 points.

Chasers are typically fast and agile, similar to Seekers. They could be compared to forwards in sports like hockey and soccer as their main goal is to score goals.

Some Notable Chasers

  • James Potter: As noted above, James was actually the chaser for the Gryffindor team (instead of the seeker).
  • Angelina Johnson: She served as a chaser on the Gryffindor squad for many of the years that Harry was on the team.
  • Ginny Weasley: She started her quidditch career as a chaser on Gryffindor and later became the seeker.
  • Dean Thomas: He became the chaser for Gryffindor, replacing Katie Bell, who was cursed.
  • Alicia Spinnet: She served as a chaser on the Gryffindor team for many of the years that Harry was on the team.
  • Katie Bell: She served as a chaser on the Gryffindor squad for many of the years that Harry was on the team.
  • Marcus Flint: He served as a chaser on the Slytherin team for several years during Harry’s time at school.
  • Roger Davis: He served as a chaser on the Ravenclaw team for several years.
  • Dragomir Gorgovitch: He was the star chaser for the Chudley Cannons.
  • Rose Granger-Weasley: She served as a chaser on the Gryffindor team.

Beater

Each team has two Beaters and they are the only position who have bats. Their main goal is to protect their team from Bludgers but they can also direct them at their opponents.

Beaters are typically really strong and have great balance. They could be compared to defensemen in sports like hockey and soccer as their main goal is to defend.

Some Notable Beaters

  • Fred Weasley: He served as a beater on the Gryffindor team since his second year at Hogwarts.
  • George Weasley: He served as a beater on the Gryffindor team since his second year at Hogwarts.
  • Gwenog Jones: She was the star beater for the Holyhead Harpies.
  • Gregory Goyle: He became a beater for the Slytherin team after his fifth year at school.
  • Vincent Crabbe: He became a beater for the Slytherin team after his fifth year at school.

Keeper

Each team has one Keeper and their goal is to stop the Quaffles from going through the goalposts. The position is crucial because each Quaffle that goes through the goalpost is worth 10 points and those can add up quickly.

Keepers typically have great athleticism so they can move from goalpost to goalpost to try and stop the Quaffles coming at them. They could (obviously) be compared to goalkeepers in sports like soccer and hockey as their main objective is to protect their net.

Some Notable Keepers

  • Ron Weasley: He became the keeper for the Gryffindor team after Oliver Wood.
  • Oliver Wood: He served as the keeper of the Gryffindor team for several years.
  • Cormac McLaggen: Ron Weasley beat out Cormac as the keeper for Gryffindor but he still served as the reserve keeper for the team.

So, which Quidditch position would you play? Let us know in the comment section and make sure to also share it with your friends on social media. Personally, I got Chaser and I think that fits me pretty well. I was always someone who loved scoring goals but didn’t want to be the center of attention. That fits with a Chaser more than it does with a Seeker.
