List Of Harry Potter Families
Here is a list of some of the most powerful families in the series and also some more details about them. We tried to only include families on this quiz that have three or more Witches/ Wizards.
The Potter Family
- Key Members: James Potter, Lily Potter and Harry Potter
The Potter‘s are one of the most famous wizarding families and you could argue that they are actually the most famous of all. James and Lily Potter were murdered by Lord Voldemort during the first Wizarding War. Their son, Harry Potter, survived and was eventually the one who was able to defeat Voldemort.
All three of James, Lily and Harry were considered to be very powerful. James and Lily were Head Boy and Head Girl for Gryffindor during their time at the school. I don’t think we need to go into more details about Harry’s accomplishments. Overall, they are a strong wizarding family and might even be the most powerful of any based on their skills.
The Weasley Family
- Key Members: Arthur Weasley, Molly Weasley, Charlie Weasley, Bill Weasley, Percy Weasley, Fred Weasley, George Weasley, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, and Hermione Granger.
You can’t mention Wizarding families and not mention the Weasley‘s. They were not a family that had a lot of money but they had a lot of love for one another. Their family had an incredible bond with one another and they are extremely close-knit. Arthur and Molly had seven children, Charlie, Bill, Fred, Percy, George, Ron, and Ginny. Their entire family played a big role in the series and the ultimate victory over Lord Voldemort. Fans got to know Ron the most as he is the best friend of Harry Potter. Ginny Weasley also went on to become the main love interest of Harry.
After the defeat of Voldemort, Hermione Granger married Ron Weasley and joined the family, making them an even stronger bunch.
The Malfoy Family
- Key Members: Lucius Malfoy, Narcissa Black, and Draco Malfoy
The Malfoy’s were known for their wealth and for their status in Wizarding society. They believe that pureblood families like them are much better than others. Lucius Malfoy was a high-ranking member of the Death Eaters and Draco later became a member. They ultimately decided to switch sides at the end of the Wizarding War, defecting away from Voldemort.
You can’t have a list like this and not include the Malfoys. Even though they served as villains for most of the series, you can’t deny their love for one another. You also can’t deny that they are a prominent Wizarding family.
The Longbottom Family
- Key Members: Augusta Longbottom, Frank Longbottom, Alice Longbottom, and Neville Longbottom
The Longbottom’s were another famous Wizarding family. Unfortunately, their fame is for some tragic circumstances. This is due to Alice and Frank being tortured into insanity by Death Eaters.
Their son, Neville, went on to play a major role in the ultimate defeat of Lord Voldemort. Neville’s grandmother, Augusta, was a badass in her own right and took part in the Battle of Hogwarts.
The Black Family
- Key Members: Sirius Black, Regulus Black, Bellatrix Lestrange, and Narcissa Malfoy.
The House of Black is known to be one of the oldest and wealthiest of all families. This family included members of the Order of the Phoenix, including Sirius and Andromeda Tonks. The family also features Death Eaters, including Bellatrix Lestrange. Narcissa Malfoy makes her second appearance on this list, as her maiden name is Black.
The Lestrange Family
- Key Members: Leta Lestrange, Rodolphus Lestrange, Rabastan Lestrange, and Bellatrix Black.
The Lestrange’s are known to be one of the oldest and wealthiest of all Wizarding families. One of the members is Leta Lestrange, who plays a big role in Fantastic Beasts. The family also includes Death Eaters like Bellatrix, Rodolphus, and Rabastan. This is the second appearance for Bellatrix, who married into the Lestrange family.
The Bones Family
- Key Members: Seraphina Bones, Edgar Bones, Amelia Bones, and Susan Bones.
The Bones’ have strong connections in the Ministry of Magic. As a result, they were targeted by Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Edgar Bones was a member of the Order of the Phoenix Amelia Bones became the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Susan Bones was a student at Hogwarts. She was in Harry’s year but she was in Hufflepuff House.
The Scamander Family
- Key Members: Newt Scamander, Tina Goldstein, Theseus Scamander, Rolf Scamander, and Luna Lovegood.
The Scamander Family is one that we needed to include. You likely recognize the names Newt, Tina and Theseus from the Fantastic Beasts. Newt and Tina ended up getting married and their grandson is named Rolf. Rolf went on to become a Magizoologist like his grandfather. He also went on to marry a popular character from the original series, Luna Lovegood. Overall, this is a pretty badass wizarding family if you consider both Fantastic Beasts and the main series.
