Zacharias Smith is a minor character in the Harry Potter series. He was a member of Dumbledore’s Army but is one of the lesser known ones. We decided to put together a quiz about him. This will include some questions from the books. All come from the book end of things as Smith didn’t get a ton of screen time in the films.

Smith is a member of Hufflepuff house and he is in the same year as Harry Potter. He shared a house with the likes of Ernie Macmillan, Hannah Abbott, Susan Bones, and Justin Finch-Fletchley.
2) What position did he play on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team?
Smith played as a Chaser on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. The Chasers focus on the Quaffle and try to put them through the hoops and past the Goalkeeper.
This is a bit of a deep cut as this information was only revealed in the Order of the Phoenix book. Smith helped Hufflepuff beat Gryffindor by ten points in that book.
3) Who Used The ‘Bat-Bogey Hex’ On Smith After He Annoyed Them In The Half-Blood Prince book?
The answer is Ginny Weasley as she used the hex on him after he kept asking what happened at the Department of Mysteries. Ginny eventually got so annoyed with his questions that she hexed him. Horace Slughorn invited her to the Slug Club after seeing this, instead of giving her any detention or punishment.
4) Which spell did Smith ‘Scoff’ at when Harry Potter tried to teach it to Dumbledore’s Army? (Half-Blood Prince book)
The answer is Expelliarmus as it was noted in the Half-Blood Prince novel that Smith “scoffed” when Harry tried to teach the spell to fellow members of Dumbledore’s Army. Despite being a member of the group, Smith was a big skeptic of Harry and this was another example of that.
Harry told Smith that Expelliarmus was a spell that helped him fend off Lord Voldemort in their duel and he could leave whenever he wanted.
5) True Or False: Smith was the only Dumbledore’s Army member not to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts
This is true as Smith did not stay for the Battle of Hogwarts to fight. He was seen fleeing the castle and even pushed away some younger students in order to escape quicker.

Our Character Summary
Overall, Smith played a very small role in the series but was pretty memorable for being a hater that was involved in Dumbledore’s Army. It is surprising that he was a member of Hufflepuff though as he doesn’t seem to fit many of the traits they possess. Interested to hear an explanation from J.K Rowling as to why he was in the house.
