More Details On The 3 Unforgiveable Curses

Here are all of the curses that you could have gotten on the quiz and also some additional details about each of them.

Imperius Curse aka Imperio

The Imperius Curse is a dark spell that allows you to completely control your victim. It is essentially a form of mind control or hypnosis, where the victim will do anything that you tell them to. Imperio is able to be resisted but it is said to be extremely difficult to do so.

We saw several characters from the Harry Potter series use this spell. This includes Harry himself, who used it to break into Gringotts with Hermione and Ron. Another example was Viktor Krum, who was under the curse of Barty Crouch Jr in Goblet of Fire. Due to being under the curse, Krum attached Harry and Cedric Diggory during the final task of the Triwizard Tournament.

Cruciatus Curse aka Crucio

The Cruciatus Curse is a dark spell that is used to inflict pain onto your victim. It is essentially a way to torture someone. As we saw with Neville Longbottom’s parents, the spell can also drive people to madness.

We saw several people use this curse throughout the series. While in the graveyard in Goblet of Fire, Voldemort used the spell on Harry to torture him. Harry would later go on to use the spell on Amycus Carrow in Deathly Hallows. This came after he had spat in Professor McGonagall’s face. Harry also attempted to cast this curse at Bellatrix after she murdered Sirius Black but it missed.

Killing Curse aka Avada Kedavra

The Killing Curse is a dark spell that is used to kill your victim. It is a way to cause a death that is immediate and also painless, as we learned from Sirius Black. The spell is not able to be countered but it can be dodged or blocked with solid objects. This is the spell that is used by the most dangerous of the Harry Potter villains.

One of the most famous uses of the spell was when Severus Snape used it to kill Professor Dumbledore. Lord Voldemort also used the spell multiple times, including two failed attempts on Harry.

Some Additional Trivia About The Curses

Here are some additional facts and tidbits about the spells that we found interesting.

1) In 1717, the Ministry Of Magic announced that these three spells were illegal and punishments would follow for anyone using them. It has been said that using the spell will land you in Azkaban.

2) During the first Wizarding War, Aurors were allowed to use the spells. This was due to special permission given to them by the Ministry of Magic.

3) Harry Potter is the only person known to resist the Killing Curse, which he was able to do twice against Lord Voldemort. This came when he was a baby and also in his final fight against Lord Voldemort.

4) Fawkes (aka Dumbledore’s Phoenix) was able to survive the killing curse. It swallowed the curse in protection of Dumbledore in his fight with Lord Voldemort. It was able to be reborn from the ashes after it was killed.

So, which of the Unforgivable Curses are you? Let me know in the comment section below or on Twitter. Personally, I ended up getting the Imperius Curse. I feel good about that because it seems to be the least evil of the three dark spells.
