1) What year was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire released?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released on November 18th, 2005. This became the third Harry Potter movie to be released in November with Prisoner of Azkaban being the only one that wasn’t (at the time).

In order to compete in the tournament, you had to be at least 17 years old. Harry was only 14 years old during the tournament. As a result, many people were confused and upset when Harry’s name came out of the goblet.

They are supposed to send up red sparks if they are in danger during the maze. Harry used this spell when Fleur Delacour was being dragged into the maze during the final task.

Harry won 1000 galleons for winning the Triwizard Tournament. This really made no difference to Harry though as he was already extremely wealthy by this time.

6) Which team faced Bulgaria in the Quidditch World Cup at the start of the movie?

The Irish National Team faced off against Bulgaria in the Quidditch World Cup. Ireland defeated Bulgaria, 170-160. We ended up getting our first glimpse of Viktor Krum during this game, as he is the seeker for the Bulgarians and catches the snitch.

The Goblet’s flame turns red before spitting out a name and remains blue when it is not in use. This was prominently shown when Harry’s name was spat out by the flames, entering him into the tournament.

8) What color was Harry’s bow tie at the Yule Ball?

Harry’s bow tie was white and his date for the Yule Ball was Parvati Patil. Harry never ended up dancing with Parvati as he and Ron Weasley were too busy sulking throughout the dance.

They used an old boot as their portkey during the movie. They go to see the Quidditch world cup game between Bulgaria and Ireland. Even though Viktor Krum is able to grab the golden snitch, his team still ended up losing by ten points. After the match, the dementors come and they have to find the portkey to escape.

10) Which of his hands does Peter Pettigrew cut off during the ritual to rejuvenate Voldemort?

Peter Pettigrew cuts off his right hand during the ritual. As a result, Lord Voldemort returns and ends up giving Pettigrew a new hand for his loyalty. This is the first movie that we see the character of Voldemort in his full form.

Box Office And Critical Response

1) The movie made $102.7 million in North America for opening weekend, which beat the previous three movies.

2) According to Box Office Mojo, the movie has grossed $897,099,794 Worldwide (as of 2019).

3) According to Box Office Mojo, this was the third highest-grossing film of 2005. It was beaten by Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

4) The movie has a 88% rating on the TOMATOMETER on Rotten Tomatoes based on 253 critical reviews. It also has an audience score of 74% with over 34 million votes (as of 2019).

5) On IMDB, the film has a user rating of 7.7/10.

6) Legendary film critic Roger Ebert gave this movie 3.5 stars out of 4 in his review.

7) The movie was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction but did not win. This was the third film in the franchise to be nominated for an Academy Award (along with number 1 and 3). The movie also won the award for favorite movie at the 2006 Kids’ Choice Awards. This was the first of the Potter franchise to win the award.

Production Notes About The Movie

8) The film was directed by Mike Newell, who took over from Alfonso Cuarón after the third installment. In an interview with EW, it was revealed that Alfonso only wanted to direct one film, so they had to find someone else for the fourth.

9) According to IMDB, Newell received $1 million dollars to direct the film. This was much lower than Chris Columbus (director of the first two movies), who received $10 million for the second film and a percentage of the gross.

10) Newell was also one of the directors who was originally considered to direct the first movie in the series.

11) In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Steve Kloves (screenwriter) said that while planning the movie, they always thought it would be split into two parts. This never ended up happening and they ended up successfully keeping it as one movie.

Casting Notes About The Movie

12) According to IMDB, Henry Cavill auditioned for the role of Cedric Diggory but he was beaten out by Robert Pattinson. Cavill is best known for portraying Superman in the DC Extended Universe. This was also the first-ever film that Pattinson was in (not including TV movies).

13) IMDB says that Rosamund Pike was the first choice to play the character of Rita Skeeter but she declined. Pike was nominated for an Academy Award in 2014 (best actress) for her role in Gone Girl.

14) According to IMDB, Franz Ferdinand was originally approached to portray the band in the film but they declined. The band in the movie was not referred to as ‘The Weird Sisters’ (like in the books) because of a lawsuit with the Wyrd Sisters, who are a Canadian band.

15) IMDB says that actors Ray Winstone and Billy Connolly were considered for the role of Mad-Eye Moody. The role ended up going to  Brendan Gleeson, who is known for his roles in Braveheart, Gangs of New York, and Troy.

16) There were rumors that actors Rowan Atkinson and John Malkovich were being considered for the role of Voldemort. The role eventually went to Ralph Fiennes, who has been nominated for two Academy Awards in his career (for Schindler’s List and The English Patient).

18) In an interview with EW, JK Rowling revealed that she almost named the book: Harry Potter and the Triwizard Tournament. She also originally considered Harry Potter and the Doomspell Tournament as the Title.

19) This was the first Harry Potter movie to be rated PG-13. The previous three films were all rated PG. All of the subsequent movies (except for Half-Blood Prince) were rated PG-13.
